Info Post

it’s the day after the night before. Ireland just got destroyed. Everyone is feeling a bit melancholy. Unless of course you don't follow soccer and just like americana music, then it’s another great Friday. Something to fit the mood. Hello The 1930's. Whatever mood you're in, they are a solid soundtrack for it; like a lot of americana, they produce upbeat songs with some downbeat lyrics. The 1930's are two lads; Andrew Cameron and Jonny Solari from Belfast who combine folk and americana influences to make a mixture of pop and indie tinged stories in song.

The band have two e.p.'s out at the moment "All These Things" released in 2010 and the recently launched self-titled e.p. The songs are a mixture of loss, heartbreak and musings on love. The buoyant tracks on the recent e.p. remind me of early Josh Ritter. Not too fussy arrangements with words from the heart. "Sarah (part 1)" is a prime example.

The e.p. has confusingly three different titled tracks making up a trilogy of sorts. Apart from Sarah (part 1), A Start to an End (Part 2) is after a measured start, a real indie stomper while my favourite of the trilogy "Said You Saw it Coming (Part 3)" is again a slow builder with a piano led coda that sounds like it should be playing over the closing credits of a indie rom-com.

The lads seem young enough. I believe Andrew just turned 21 there recently. It's impressive then when you consider their debut e.p. that they released two years ago. There is definitely a youthful exuberance in the songs. "I'm a vapour" is a poppy, catchy number while my pick of them, "All these Things" is another bouncy track with hand claps and a rhythm that makes it perfect as a travelling song.

The official site is where you can find all updates one would require on the band and if you want just one degree of separation from them; facebook. They don't seem to be doing too many shows done south but hopefully that will change soon.
