Seeing as this is a blog covering all Irish bands, both domestic and foreign based. So it is probably overdue that I cover a foreign based outfit. With due promptness, introducing for your aural pleasure: Track Dogs.
Based on the song writing skills of singer Garrett Wall, the group had previously released two albums in their former guise of The Garrett Wall Band in 2007 ("Sky Pointing") and in February 2009("Hand and Imperfections"). Recognising the input by all members of the band to the outfit, the band decided to re-christen themselves "Track Dogs" in early 2011.
The band consists of lead singer and song-writer Garrett wall, Robbie K. Jones (cajón, banjo), Howard Brown (trumpet, piano, percussion) and Dave Mooney (electric & double bass) with all four members contributing vocals to the band tracks. The band’s music might best be described as folk-pop. With a hint of Cajun and Latin influences from early on, it probably is no surprise that the band ended up being based in Spain. While their first album established the sound, the follow-up "Hands and Imperfections" honed their style and featured some great gospel tinged melodies such as "Worst Case Scenario".
The band’s new album, released in 2011 is self-titled "Track Dogs". Keeping on the same track where the previous two albums left off, it mixes, vocal harmonies, pleasant song writing along with trumpet bursts and ukuleles. The recently released single "Dust Devil" is a standout track. More aggressive than some of their previous releases, it is a poppy americana, desert-noir tune with a very sing-along chorus and a silent movie influenced video.
You can find more information about the band and purchase their albums on their official site: Trackdogs.com. As usual there is the facebook as well. The band are currently appearing at SXSW and are due to tour Ireland in May.
