Info Post

Apologies for the gap between posts over the previous few weeks. The life/blog balance has been ppor. And for a while there I thought I was going to run out of Irish based americana bands but thankfully some new talent has emerged.

Parallel are a long time going covers band who have recently just begun on the path of original sounds. The band consists of vocalist Christine Brine and guitarist Lar English, their name coming from the Blondie album "parallel lines". A clever name for a covers band. After three years of performing covers of mainly 60's hits, the two with the addition of a rhythm section consisting of William Magnier (bass) and Steve Buckley (drums) have recorded a full length album of original material.

Their first official release is titled "Paper Walls". The band describes it themselves as an album with influences from roots, country and power-pop; an appealing blend of genres.

The album does move in between genres as well as featuring songs that weld those different genres together with the latter my favourite amongst their melodies. Christine cites the Lemonheads as an influence and that can be picked up on tracks like "Unravel Me" and "Hard to go". Similar in melody to classic Lemonheads, both tracks add an extra dash of americana to produce two perfect little pop tunes.

The album is full of American influences. "Siren", "Hold My head" and "Cold blooded woman" are folk guitar led acoustic tracks demonstrating Christine's warm vocals. "Cold blooded woman" in particular is enjoyable. A dark dirge reminiscent of Bobbie Gentrie's Ode to Billie Joe.

The most country of the album tracks is "Cordell". A rockabilly/country blend, it is a foot-taping stomper of a jiving tune. One it's not to resist the temptation to dance to.

You can find out where to purchase the physical album on the bands website. You can buy the digital version on iTunes and cdBaby. Also check out the facebook if you like to social network.
