Info Post
Where in today's episode, the author decides to write (hungover) about a band that requires extensive online research. Am I bovvered? Yes, yes I am.

Good Tiger are a sadly disbanded lo-fi americana band from Kilkenny. One thing I have realised from researching this band is there a lot of internet activity related to a good tiger, sadly very little of it music. Anyway, the band themselves formed in 2007. The following year, in August 2008, they released the debut album; The Dynamics of Alcatraz. They describe themselves as "incredibly lazy but notoriously prolific". I'll go for the latter there. The main man behind the band seems to be Dave Holland. He seems to have many fingers in many, many pies. If you check out the soundcloud page, you'll find a load of music there from his various guises. He was also involved with producing (I think) the River Valley Band's album whom I mentioned previously in my post on The Bottlestoppers. All in all, it seems to be a thriving americana music scene down there in Kilkenny.

Anyway on to the music, I came across Good Tiger and "The hearts' a fatal flaw" was the first track I heard. It still remains my favourite. The band might describe themselves as lo-fi americana but this song at least is a flawless americana pop song. For some reason I think of an americana Lighting Seeds when I listen to this song. Maybe it’s to do with the similar singing style to Ian Broudie and the up tempo BPM but it is a comparison I think doesn't even do the song justice.

Closer to the bands own description of themselves is the song "Closer to me". It reminds me of that genre I came across recently; desert noir. Similar to the sounds of lo-fi, this song would feel right at home there.

As I said, the soundcloud page has all the tracks which are also available for download. On the bands own blog, you can find video's to some of their songs as well as some very interesting writing.
