It's great to write in this blog about bands that are just starting off, beginning to release a few songs and watch them garner fans and to say that you were maybe a small part in that process. However there is always the other side of that coin. A band can achieve critical mass but where to go from there? As I have said in the Eirecana manifesto many weeks ago, the objective of this blog is to archive the producers of americana, alt-country in Ireland including those bands that are no more. I started off this blog with one such band that that is no longer with us and today I feature (sadly) the second in that sequence: Lyre Dyce.
Lyre Dyce are, sorry, were an americana band from Dungarvan in Waterford. Formed by cousins Cyril and Ross Stack and then were later joined by Barry, Shane, Katie and Paddy. The group has been going since 2008. They recorded their debut e.p. in 2009 and it was released in 2010. A 6-track concise album of pleasurable pop and americana.
The lead track on the e.p. "Dog Blues" is a fiery, bluesy pop song complete with organ and aggression. It feels like it was recorded in the delta.
The other song that had received radio play was "Patient Man". The band describe their own music as "Anglo-Celtic-americana". I think that fits in perfect with this track. This is a real beautiful sliver of americana pop. Apart from the exquisite song writing, the blending of the vocal's, the lovely harmonies really stand out in this song.
Although the band is no more, you can still buy the e.p. on iTunes. I think they deserve it, don't you? If you're are curious about the band, the Facebook is a handy place to start.
