Info Post

Again a long delay between posts. Offline life is pretty busy at the moment. I hope to improve my ways and catch up over the next few days. In the meantime, I'm glad to introduce a bit of something that hasn’t been on this blog for a while. Straight up rock.

Cold Steel Feel are a rock band from Dublin. They are made up of Liam, Jazzer, David and Ryan. They play post-grunge rock. Simple as. The band formed in early 2011. They describe themselves as Drop D Groove Engineers. Why are they on an americana blog then? Well like all the heavy alt-country bands; Drive-by Truckers, My Morning Jacket; they are not afraid of the heavy riffs. If you listen to some of their songs, the music does have that wild, reckless feel about them. They make good use of those riffs too. For example, on the track Chant. Starting off as a credible chain-gang song, the song develops into a heavy riff-driven angry tune. It sounds like something that would fit perfectly over a montage of criminals escaping a chain gang and causing chaos as they break for freedom. Every time I hear it I just want to play it louder.

The band apparently recorded a lot of the demos that are on Soundcloud in a haunted shed. You can hear the rest of that interesting story from the band themselves in an interview they did with Dublin City Fm here. The band describe their influences as classic rock, grunge and have mentioned Nick Cave. I think these influences combine on something like the track "Greeny Joe". The riffs remind me of early southern rock, that and the almost sauntering rhythm section while the lyrics are dark are executed perfectly in that gravely vocal.

The band doesn’t appear to be doing too many gigs at the moment. But to keep up to date on the situation; check out the Facebook here. Let's hope they get recording more in that haunted shed soon.
