Info Post
Joe Pug - Hymn #76

A man who has a way with words. He dropped out of college, picked up the guitar and hasn’t stopped since. You can download a free sampler on this site which is well worth it.

First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar

The album was one of my favourites of the year and this track is the stand out on that outstanding album.

Whitehorse - Devil's Got A Gun

More poppy than a Justin Timberlake song, this track nevertheless is half-part americana and half-part testing the boundaries of what can and be included in an americana song. It's just sing-along perfect.

The Mastersons - Birds Fly South

Another song form a band that was featured on my favourite albums of the year. I think this song is fairly close to perfection. The perfect mix of melancholy and hope. Very near to my favourite song of the year.

Geri X - Work is The Wolf

I think we all feel this way about work sometimes. Bulgarian born but now living in Florida, Geri X is a classically trained musician who is a talented songwriter as is evidenced on this track.

Hallelujah The Hills - Get Me in A Room

A band from Boston. They make warm indie songs. I like it.

Pony Boy - Saints & Liars

Pony Boy is the moniker of Marchelle Bradanini. This song is on constant reply on my iPod since I first came across it earlier this year. With soaring organ and cutting lyrics; labelled by herself as Junkyard doom wop soul country blues. I call just great music.

Arliss Nancy - Front Seat

From Florida. Make great alt-country. This being a prime example.

Lonesome City Travellers - The River

Another leftfield americana tune with pop sentimentalities.

Mat Woods - Port St. Lucie

As it says on his website: "Turning bad decisions into Good damned songs". Mixing folk, country and americana, the songs of Matt Woods are very easy on the ear.

Robert Earl Keen - I Gotta Go

I could listen to this for days on end. Wonderfully constructed with the melody adding the perfect momentum to the lyrics.

Kasey Anderson - Some Depression

A left-of-centre view on mainstream country music and the life of an americana musician. Amazing words that you'll be singing along to in no time.

Bootleggers & Baptists - Flood Water

A talented pair of cousins making soul influenced rock. A band with a lot of potential.

JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound - Want More

Finally to end with something different. A bit of brass heavy soul rock. Something that you easily see yourself dancing to.

Keep an eye out for the best Irish albums of 2012 coming soon.
