After possibly straying off course (depending on your view), the next three posts will feature three bands producing classic americana. All the stereotypes; fiddle, singing about lost love and mandolin licks (and there's nothing wrong with that.) Also I want to return to less writing and more music unless you enjoy the writing? I haven't had any comments in that regard so the less said the better.
Sumbrellas is a band based in Galway that feature an Italian fiddle player (Federico Betti), an American vocalist (Chris White) and an Irishman guitarist (Finbar Campbell)(sounds like the start of a bad joke). They call their music "Irish americana Itilicana" which is a great genre name. They play stompin' americana as is evidenced by the video to their track "Moonlight" from the E.P. Fast Music which was released in 2009 (I suggest emailing them to find out where to get it).
The two tracks from their Soundcloud I like are "Driving in the Meadows" and a beautiful version of "Pachelbel's Canon". No the name mightn't mean anything but listen and you'll recognise it. For a track that was recorded live, it's a very impressive version. Reminds me of a certain Bord Na Mona ad but better!
Hit their Facebook to find where they are playing next and for more tracks. They are currently working on their début album. Here's hoping it comes out soon.
