My third straight-up americana band in a row. I never stayed on topic for this long since junior cert Irish and that time it was only matching the boxes. Back to the music. Yngve & the Innocent are a London based band with Sligo roots. The lead singer and songwriter Yngve (pronounced Ing-Vuh) was born in Germany and raised in Sligo. The band do beautiful warm, sunny americana. You don't hear too many bands any more where the piano is given prominence but its lovely to hear piano licks dispersed through out the songs here. A lazy comparison would be the Band but I think they sound similar to an upbeat Avett Brothers (if the Avett's weren't spurned by women as much). The band managed to successfully raise €5,000 on fundit to produce the debut album "The Sadness of Remembering" which features (in my mind) a young liza minnelli on the cover. Am I wrong?
Its well worth checking out. Every song sounds good. The good news is they are having an album showcase on the 23rd of May...the band news, it's in London (unless you're reading this in London). The current single (I think, well the have a lovely video for it) is a favourite of mine. This where I hear the Avett Brothers.
And now two for the price of one. "You've been released" is a real foot tappin' barn stormer of a song while "Pretending I Had Faith" shows the band can also easily accomplish writing songs in the other end of the americana spectrum, a lovely ballad.
Their official page is here with upcoming dates in Ireland and the obligatory Facebook as well.
